Cleared rural property in the Appalachian foothills after brush and undergrowth removal

Building & Equipment Pads

Level, compacted pads for barns, shops, sheds, carports, greenhouses, RV and equipment parking — built with proper cut and fill, stone base, and drainage away from the pad.

The problem

Why It Keeps Happening.

A building is only as good as what sits under it. A pad that was pushed level with loose fill and never compacted will settle, and everything on top of it settles with it — posts, slabs, and doors that quit closing right.

The other half of the problem is water. A pad cut into a slope without a way for water to get around it becomes the low spot, and you end up with a barn floor that stays wet and a mud rut at the door.

Around here almost every site has some slope and some clay, so cut, fill, and drainage all have to be handled together instead of just scraping the topsoil off.

Often paired with land clearing, driveway grading & gravel and drainage & water diversion on the same visit.

What we do

Our Process.

  1. 1

Look at the site, the slope, and where water comes from, and set the pad location and elevation.

  2. 2

Strip topsoil and organic material so the pad is built on stable subgrade, not on sod.

  3. 3

Cut and fill to the finished elevation, keeping fill in controlled lifts.

  4. 4

Compact each lift so the pad holds a building, a slab, or heavy equipment without settling.

  5. 5

Place and compact stone base to the depth the use calls for.

  6. 6

Shape the surrounding ground and cut drainage so water goes around the pad, not across it.
